A firefighting monitor, also referred to as a water cannon or fire monitor, is a powered nozzle strategically positioned to discharge amounts of water or fire-retardant foam at elevated pressures. Typically mounted on firetrucks, trailers, or fixed locations within structures, firefighting monitors are designed for remote control operations, allowing firefighters to keep a distance from the flames while effectively directing the fire extinguishing material.

Industrial fixed monitors can be controlled automatically by means of a remote control station. Fixed Monitors are generally designed for heavy duty applications such as aggressive chemicals plants or off shore platforms.
